In Mexico, the entire family of a famous singer has been wiped out
The Mexico City Prosecutor's Office has announced the death of Jonathan Meléndez, a musician from the indie-rock band Camilo Septimo. His pregnant wife, three-year-old daughter, nanny, and dog were also killed.
According to CNN, police have already detained two suspects, one of whom is the musician's friend and business partner.
The murder took place on the night of September 2 in the Zona Esmeralda neighborhood of the State of Mexico. Neighbors called the police after hearing screams and gunshots. At the crime scene, police found the bodies of four people and a dog that had been shot. The Meléndez family's six-year-old son was also found alive and unharmed in the apartment. The perpetrators were identified using surveillance cameras. On September 3, Diego Sebastián, the musician's friend and business partner who co-owned the property with Meléndez and rented it out via Airbnb, was arrested. The second suspect is Gerardo N., whom police believe helped Diego Sebastián carry out the murder plan.
Investigators are working on a financial dispute between the partners as the primary motive for the murder. This hypothesis is further supported by the fact that a few hours before the murder, Jonathan Meléndez had warned one of his close friends about a difficult meeting with his business partner and asked them to contact the police if he did not respond for a long time. So far, both men have refused to testify. The Mexican music community and members of the band Camilo Septimo have expressed their condolences to the victim's family and friends.
