Construction of $7 Billion Projects Launched in Karakalpakstan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremony to launch and start the construction of new projects during his visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
In recent years, the favorable conditions created for entrepreneurship and investment in the region have been serving to develop economic sectors, establish new production capacities, and ensure employment for the population.
In particular, while Karakalpakstan's gross regional product amounted to 8.5 trillion soums in 2016, it exceeded 54 trillion soums by the beginning of this year. The share of the private sector in product manufacturing reached 66 percent. The number of active business entities increased 2.5 times, reaching 26.5 thousand.
Over the past nine years, more than $5 billion in investments have been attracted to Karakalpakstan to create high-income jobs. By the end of this year, the volume of foreign investments is expected to reach $2.5 billion. The number of foreign and joint ventures operating in the region increased 2.2 times compared to 2018, reaching 271.
As part of the ceremony, 11 projects worth $592 million were launched, and the construction of 47 new projects worth $7 billion, to be implemented with the participation of foreign partners, was started. Thanks to them, 8,000 high-income jobs will be created.
In particular, two wind power plants with a total capacity of 300 megawatts and a 100-megawatt electricity storage system were launched in the Karauzak district.
Among the launched facilities is the Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in the city of Nukus, built in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates. This 100-bed institution, valued at $27 million, is equipped with modern medical equipment. 80 jobs have been created here. The Karakalpakstan Scientific and Practical Academy of Medicine will also serve to improve the quality of medical services and develop the qualifications of specialists in the region.
In the direction of digital infrastructure development, the first phase of the modular intelligent computing center of the "Linkwise" enterprise, worth $150 million, was launched in the Takhiatash district.
A $20 million project of the "SAPSAN TRANS NO‘KIS" enterprise, aimed at improving public transport in the city of Nukus, also started operations. 25 buses and electric buses have been delivered, and an additional 75 electric buses will be brought by the end of the year. The project envisages the creation of 200 jobs.
The projects whose construction is starting cover the fields of energy, digital economy, industry, transport, medicine, and services.
In the Kungrad district, in cooperation with the Saudi Arabian company "ACWA", the construction of a major 1.5-gigawatt wind power plant worth $2.6 billion and its connection to the unified energy system is entering an active phase. Within the framework of the project, 1,500 kilometers of high-voltage main power lines will be laid, three 500-kilovolt substations will be built, and two more will be modernized.
In the Chimbay district, a project has started with Korean investors to produce 3 million cubic meters of biogas per year by processing licorice root for the first time in the republic.
In order to develop transport infrastructure, in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank, construction work has begun on a 92-kilometer section of the A-380 "Guzar – Bukhara – Nukus – Beyneu" highway. The project cost is $233 million. A project to purchase 112 electric buses and establish a depot for Nukus public transport in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will also be implemented.
With Chinese partners, projects to establish digital currency production and artificial intelligence data centers with a total value of $2 billion 281 million are being implemented in the Kungrad and Takhiatash districts. A data center will also be built in the Takhtakupir district. In the city of Nukus, a project for electricity generation through thermal waste processing was launched.
An enterprise worth $20 million for gold mining will be built at the "Zengibobo" deposit in the Karauzak district. In the Amudarya district, a modern large shopping center worth $15 million will be established.
In the social sphere, a university of medical sciences and a high-tech medical care hospital are being established with Indian partners on the basis of public-private partnership.
With the participation of Turkish partners, a recreation, entertainment, and shopping center worth $103 million will be built along the "Do‘stlik" canal in the city of Nukus, based on the model of "Seoul Mun" in Tashkent.
At the ceremony, foreign partners provided information on the implementation and launch schedules of the projects. Regional khokims presented projects aimed at creating new jobs and increasing the income of low-income families in the districts assigned to them.
The head of state called on the elderly, scientists, and representatives of the general public to establish public control over the implementation of each project. It was noted that such an approach would serve to ensure the well-being of families, the future of youth, and create a solid economic foundation for the Aral Sea region.
The head of state expressed gratitude to the foreign partners and entrepreneurs participating in the implementation of the projects.
The symbolic button was pressed, launching the new facilities and starting the construction work. A warm dialogue took place with investors and regional activists.
Right there, a presentation of the "Yangi O‘zbekiston" residential area, to be built for young families in the city of Nukus, was also held. An area of 270 hectares has been designated for the residential area, and the development of project documentation has begun. Multi-story housing for 30,000 residents, large business centers, shopping, service, and entertainment facilities will be built here.
