An Egyptian student who illegally exchanged crypto-assets worth 1.2 billion soums was detained in Jizzakh

In the Jizzakh region, an individual engaged in illegal cryptocurrency exchange has been identified.

During an operation conducted based on intelligence, it was revealed that an individual born in 2002 in the Arab Republic of Egypt, who is studying at one of the higher education institutions in Tashkent, had been engaged in crypto-asset exchange activities contrary to the legislation. When his mobile phone was inspected in the presence of impartial witnesses, the existence of a special application designed for storing, receiving, and sending cryptocurrency, as well as an electronic crypto-wallet, was confirmed.

As a result of the investigations, it was determined that crypto-assets totaling 1 billion 250 million 319 thousand 973 soums had been exchanged through this electronic wallet.

Regarding this situation, a criminal case has been initiated by the Department of Internal Affairs of Jizzakh region under Article 278-8, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code, and preliminary investigative actions are underway.

They carried out a turnover of crypto-assets worth 793 thousand USDT (approximately 9.7 billion soums) from July 2025 to January 2026.
