In Germany, police received over 80 reports regarding needles found among Halloween sweets
In Germany, police received over 80 reports regarding needles and other sharp objects inside sweets collected by children during Halloween. As a result, at least two children were injured.
It was reported that in the city of Bremervörde, a young girl bit into a chocolate bar containing a pin at least five centimeters long and injured her tongue. In Mecklenburg, a child suffered a minor injury to the mouth cavity due to a needle inside a sweet.
The highest number of such incidents, 25 cases, was recorded in Bavaria. Investigators suspect that some perpetrators may have been inspired by online calls.
A representative of the Essen police, Matthias Werk, told Bild that law enforcement officers are searching for the source where such ideas were spread. Lower Bavaria police are also investigating whether these incidents are linked to a challenge on TikTok.
Ahead of St. Martin's Day, celebrated on November 11, children in some regions of Germany will go door-to-door again to collect sweets. For this reason, police are advising parents to check all sweets.
