In France, unknown individuals have stolen a unique copy of Joseph Foret's "Apocalypse of Saint John" from the Center for Contemporary Art in Issoire. This was reported by the French radio station Ici.
The book is considered to be the only copy of its kind in the world. It was created between 1958 and 1961 and weighs about 210 kg. Another approximately 150 kg comes from the bronze binding, designed by Salvador Dalí.
When unfolded, the book reaches 150 meters in length and consists of 150 large parchments with handwritten texts. About 95,000 calligraphically written letters were used in its design, and the bronze cover is decorated with precious stones.
At the time of its creation, the work was valued at 2 million francs and was called the most expensive book in the world.
The stolen copy was intended to be part of a cultural program associated with the Bourges 2028 project.
Law enforcement agencies are currently establishing all the circumstances of the theft and are searching for the stolen work.
