"I believe in Russia's victory" — Kim Jong Un sent a letter to Putin

Kim Jong Un promised constant support to Vladimir Putin and the Russian people.

He sent this telegram in response to the congratulations sent from Russia on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK.

"I firmly believe in Russia's victory in today's sacred war to protect the country's security and the interests of international justice. I also promise to always support you and the brotherly Russian people," the letter to Putin reads.

Kim Jong Un expressed his intention to expand and deepen cooperation with Moscow based on mutual assistance and strong alliance relations.

In June 2024, Putin and Kim Jong Un signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement. It consists of 23 articles and is aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, economy, investment, science, technology, and other areas.

The agreement places special emphasis on mutual cooperation in the military sphere. According to the fourth article of the document, if one of the parties is attacked by one or more states, the other party will assist it with all available means.

According to South Korean intelligence, Kim Jong Un is directing the funds received in exchange for DPRK military personnel fighting on Russia's side against Ukraine to finance a number of construction and weapons projects.

According to Seoul, Pyongyang has received at least 7.7 billion dollars in the form of money and various economic benefits from Russia over the last three years in exchange for weapons supplies and the participation of DPRK military personnel in the liberation of the Kursk region. The total volume of payments could reach up to 14 billion dollars.

Pyongyang is reportedly sending not only weapons but also military personnel and missile units to Russia. A unit of 90 North Korean soldiers is said to be stationed in western Russia with 120 ballistic missiles and 6 launchers. If this happens, it will take the DPRK's involvement in the war to a new level. Such a situation could lead to retaliation from Kiev, as well as increased use of Ukraine by Seoul and Tokyo.
