Houthis strike Riyadh airport again: at least 12 killed, 309 injured
At least 12 people were killed and hundreds injured at Riyadh International Airport as a result of an attack carried out by the Houthis on October 10. The incident occurred amid escalating hostilities between the Iran-backed Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition.
According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia, the deceased include four citizens of Saudi Arabia and two citizens of Bangladesh. In addition, one citizen each from the US, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, and Egypt was killed. According to the latest data, a total of 309 people were injured.
Some of them are in critical condition.
On Saturday, all flights in Riyadh were diverted, and operations at the airport serving the city of nearly 8 million residents were temporarily suspended.
The head of the Houthi media office stated after the attack that they had "closed Riyadh International Airport." On Monday, the Houthis declared Saudi Arabian airspace a military operations zone, stating that passenger aircraft should bypass it.
These strikes were the deadliest attack in the kingdom in more than a decade and were carried out without warning. In particular, Saudi Arabia's threat warning system failed to activate. Earlier two attacks on King Khalid International Airport this week resulted in four deaths.
