**Great Britain plans to host the 2042 World Cup – The Times**

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has proposed hosting the 2042 World Cup in the United Kingdom, The Times reported.

According to the publication, Burnham discussed the idea with mayors at the new prime minister’s office in Manchester. The head of government is in talks with the English Football Association and the Premier League about the possibility of submitting a bid to host the tournament.

According to The Times, Burnham’s government is also preparing to submit a bid to host the 2040 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The publication notes that Burnham wants to organize the competitions in the northern cities of Great Britain. The aim is to stimulate economic growth in the regions. Burnham, while previously mayor of Greater Manchester, had called on the government to move the Olympics to the north of England.

England has hosted the World Cup once before, in 1966. It was in that tournament that the hosts won their only World Cup victory.

The last World Cup was held this year in the United States, Canada and Mexico, where England finished third. The next tournament will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco in 2030. Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay will also host one group match each. The 2034 World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia. According to World Cup regulations, the 2038 World Cup cannot be hosted by a European country.
