Government to cut business rates for pubs, clubs and music venues

Some hospitality firms will get a 20% discount from next April, saving an estimated £1,100.

The government has announced a 20% reduction in business rates for pubs, clubs, and live music venues across England, effective from April. This measure is projected to save affected businesses approximately £1,100 each over the coming year.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham, in his third policy declaration since taking office, stated, "For too long, governments have stood by while cherished venues have disappeared from our local high streets."

The initiative carries an estimated cost of £100 million. This will be financed by a review of tax relief currently benefiting businesses such as vape shops, which the government claims "do not make a positive contribution to local communities." Additionally, funding will come from a "
