A general who worked on secret communications systems in Moscow committed suicide.

The Moscow Times reported that retired Major General Igor Laptev of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) committed suicide in Moscow.

The body of 83-year-old Laptev was found on the afternoon of August 20 in an apartment on Verkhnyaya Krasnoselskaya Street. According to the publication "Top Secret", the source said: "The man's body was found in his study, he had a gunshot wound to the head."

Laptev participated in the fighting in Afghanistan. Later, he served for a long time in the KGB and FSB, dealing with information security issues.

In the late 1990s, he served as Deputy Minister of Taxes and Duties. Since 1998, Laptev has been the chairman of the board of directors of the company "Informtekhnika i Svyaz", which specializes in the development and production of confidential professional communication systems for state and corporate structures.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, there have been a series of suicides among the generals of the security services. In particular, in May, the former head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Troops, 87-year-old Colonel General Stanislav Petrov, died in Moscow.

According to "RBK", Petrov participated in the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and was seriously ill. "Gazeta.ru" wrote that this could be a suicide.
