Johnny Lever's real name is John Prakash Rao Janumala. He was born on August 14, 1957, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Later, his family moved to Mumbai, and the future actor grew up in the King's Circle and Dharavi areas of the city.

Due to financial difficulties in the family, he studied only up to the 7th grade at the Andhra Telugu School. Then, he started helping his family by working in various jobs. Selling pens on the streets of Mumbai for a while was also one of the important stages in his life.

But Johnny stood out from others in one aspect: he loved to mimic. Even while selling pens on the street, he would mimic Bollywood stars, sing songs, and make people laugh. In this way, his unusual talent gradually began to turn into a source of income.

Johnny worked at Hindustan Lever for a while. At workplace events, he would mimic his colleagues and perform various acts. His comic performances became so popular that people started calling him "Johnny Lever." Later, this name became his permanent stage name.

In the early 1980s, as his stage performances increased, he left his job at the company. After that, Johnny Lever began to continue his career as a professional comedian. He participated in various concerts, including musical shows and tours, and gradually became known to a large audience.

One of the big turning points in Johnny Lever's life is associated with actor Sunil Dutt. Seeing one of his stage performances, Sunil Dutt noticed the young comedian's talent. Later, Lever entered the world of cinema. In the mid-1980s, his performance at the "Hope 86" charity event became another important step for him. There, he performed on stage in front of the entire Indian film industry and made the audience laugh. After that, producer Gul Anand gave him a role in the film "Jalwa."

But Johnny Lever's real popularity began in the 1990s.

Johnny Lever married Sujatha Lever in 1984. They have two children — daughter Jamie and son Jesse.

In particular, his daughter Jamie Lever followed in her father's footsteps and chose the field of comedy and acting. She is trying to make a name for herself in the modern Indian comedy scene.

According to Jamie, Johnny Lever is a serious, disciplined person at home, who does not even skip walking 10,000 steps daily. Jamie also noted that her father was very busy with work in the 1990s, and later reduced the number of films to spend more time with his family.
