Following OpenAI, the head of Anthropic has called for an urgent slowdown in the development of artificial intelligence

The head of Anthropic, following OpenAI, has called for an urgent slowdown in the development of artificial intelligence.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that the pace of artificial intelligence development must be urgently slowed down due to growing safety risks. According to his assessment, if proper protective measures are not taken, powerful AI systems could cause hundreds of billions of dollars in damage within the next 6 to 12 months.

In his blog, the creator of the Claude language model pointed out that the accelerating development of AI capabilities poses a threat of a swarm of bots emerging that could take over the internet. He emphasized that the scale of potential harm will grow alongside the increasing power of algorithms if the necessary protective mechanisms are not implemented.

To address this issue, Amodei proposed a three-stage coordination plan aimed at the balanced and safe development of technology. In the first stage, developer companies must involve third-party experts to audit internal safety practices.

The second stage involves building cooperation between AI companies in democratic countries. The third phase entails global coordination involving the governments of most countries in the world, including authoritarian states such as China.

The statement by the head of Anthropic comes amid a similar stance from the leadership of OpenAI. Earlier, the company's head, Sam Altman, during a closed-door meeting with employees, announced a readiness to slow down the development of the most advanced artificial intelligence systems for the sake of safety and urged other market participants to follow suit.
