Fans mark Liam Payne’s death two years on

West Park’s bandstand has been turned into a temporary memorial two years after his death.

A tribute has been created for One Direction star Liam Payne to mark the second anniversary of his death.

Fans from as far away as New Zealand and the US have left emotional messages in the singer’s home city of Wolverhampton.

The bandstand in West Park has been decorated with banners, photos, toys and flowers, along with a red letter box for private messages.

The 31-year-old singer, who grew up in Bushbury in Wolverhampton, died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

A red letter box for private messages to be added to was also set up at the bandstand

Among the tributes, Kim from the US wrote: "I still can't believe it's been two years. I miss your smile, your voice, your music and just seeing you happy.

"You are still thought of, still talked about, still listened to and still loved by so many."

Katja Tuovila, from Sweden, said in an emotional message: "Your strength and love, kindness touched so many and will never be forgotten, remaining a beautiful legacy."

Nicola Jones from New Zealand added: "Two years gone but never forgotten. Always loved, forever missed. Liam, our angel of light."

In May, a coroner said he was awaiting developments in Argentina as the investigation there continues into Payne's death.

He died of multiple traumas and "internal and external haemorrhage", a post-mortem examination report said, after falling from a third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.

Purple flowers, toys and pictures all formed part of a display in the middle of the bandstand

In February last year, a court in Argentina dropped charges of criminal negligence against three of the five people accused of a connection to his death.

After his band took a break, Payne launched a successful solo career, releasing his debut solo album LP1 in December 2019.

The temporary memorial can be viewed in West Park
