Facing drought and desertification, Uzbekistan looks to Israeli expertise

Uzbekistan, grappling with drought and desertification, is seeking to leverage Israeli expertise.

According to the Dunyo news agency, officials from Karakalpakstan participated in a virtual meeting with the leadership of Israel's DeserTech and Climate Innovation Center. This center specializes in creating cutting-edge solutions for arid environments and adapting to climate change.

Discussions between the two parties focused on enhancing international collaboration in areas such as environmental protection, sustainable resource management, scientific inquiry, the adoption of innovative technologies, and the training of specialists.

The Center's leaders provided an overview of Israel's experience in developing technological solutions for regions contending with the impacts of climate change, water scarcity, and desertification.

Karakalpakstan's representatives, in turn, informed participants about their current initiatives aimed at improving environmental conditions, bolstering scientific capabilities, and implementing measures to lessen the effects of climate change.

Following the discussions, both sides confirmed their shared interest in forging a partnership. They agreed to initiate their collaboration by developing and signing a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding, which will establish the framework for future engagement in areas of mutual interest.

Earlier reports indicated that Uzbekistan's agricultural sector is facing significant challenges due to widespread technological deficiencies, drought, and soil salinization.
