According to the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), European officials, driven by Russophobia, are planning a series of provocations to prevent Russian athletes from participating in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles with the Russian national flag and anthem.
The SVR reports that Europe is extremely concerned about the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to lift sanctions against the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and Russian athletes. The press bureau noted: "In the totalitarian-fascist manner typical of Euroliberals, they intend to 'punish' the IOC itself. They plan to 'hit with the euro' by restricting its funding, as well as that of other sports organizations that agree to allow Russians to compete. The agenda is to unleash a new round of the campaign to undermine Russia's position as a great sporting power."
"The European 'gravediggers' of the Olympic Movement intend to ramp up anti-Russian propaganda among countries and sports federations with a constructive stance toward Moscow, with the aim of inciting them to sabotage the IOC's 'apolitical' decision," the SVR emphasized.
It noted that "the EU considers organizing provocations against members of Russian teams on the eve of competitions to be an effective way to 'drive the Russians out of the game.'"
According to the SVR, a similar scenario was tested in early July in Munich, when police detained members of the Russian team at the European Junior Synchronized Swimming Championships on suspicion of "espionage." "The intimidation, however, did not prevent the Russians from taking a confident first place in the overall medal count," the press office added.
"It appears that Russophobia has so clouded the minds of European bureaucrats that they are willing to sacrifice the Olympic Movement itself." "However, the IOC's recent decision only confirms that the global sports community will not follow the lead of the 'gravediggers' of Pierre de Coubertin's great work," the Russian intelligence service stated.
They recalled that the European Union has already included Russian sports officials, including the Russian Minister of Sport and the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Mikhail Degtyarev, in the 21st sanctions package. "The possibility of introducing visa bans and new targeted restrictions against an even wider range of athletes and representatives of Russian sports structures is being explored," the SVR clarified.
