Embassy of India Hosts Conference on Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow
On 23 September 2026, marking the 11th Ayurveda Day, the Embassy of India organized a conference titled “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow” at the Le Grande Plaza Hotel in Tashkent.
The event drew more than 60 participants, including the Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Folk Medicine of Uzbekistan and doctors from the Centre, representatives of the Association of Traditional Medicine of Uzbekistan, practitioners of traditional medicine, local healthcare institutions, the OSCE Project Coordinator, healthcare professionals, Indian companies, and members of the Indian community. Dr. Tanmay Goswami and Dr. Nikhila Hiremath, Ayurveda experts from India, joined virtually.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Smita Pant, Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan, highlighted the conference theme and pointed to the significant economic growth in Ayurveda. She also referred to the ongoing bilateral cooperation in traditional medicine and the potential for further collaboration. The Ambassador stressed the rising global interest in Ayurveda for health and wellness, as well as its importance in addressing current health challenges. She urged the business and scientific communities to work together to take advantage of the vast opportunities in Ayurveda and traditional medicine.
The programme included a virtual presentation by Dr. Nikhila Hiremath, Director, Lifestyle and Wellness at LYBL Healthcare and a licensed Physician from Bengaluru, on “Evidence, Research and Innovation in Ayurveda,”. This was followed by a detailed presentation by Dr. Doniyor Azimov, a certified Ayurveda practitioner in Uzbekistan, on strengthening Uzbekistan-India Health Diplomacy through AYUSH and TCIM. The programme also featured an online keynote address by Dr. Tanway Goswami, Ayurveda Physician, author and wellness mentor from Udupi, on the importance of Ayurveda in contemporary life. Dr. Jalil Abdullaev, Ayurveda Physician from Uzbekistan, gave an overview of the benefits of Ayurveda for holistic health. After that, Mr. Ashok Tiwari, Chairman of pharmaceutical company Shayana Farm and also Chairman of the Indian Community in Tashkent, spoke about the opportunities for Ayurveda in Uzbekistan.
The programme ended with an informative video on Ayurveda. An Ayurveda Corner was also arranged at the venue, displaying Ayurvedic products and books that attracted considerable interest from participants.
The proceedings offered a range of perspectives on Ayurveda, covering its traditional foundations, modern applications, evidence-based research, wellness practices, and prospects for further development in Uzbekistan. It also served as a useful platform for knowledge exchange and networking among stakeholders in traditional medicine and healthcare. Discussions further examined prospects for broader promotion of Ayurveda in Uzbekistan and for strengthening institutional, professional and commercial ties between the two countries.
