Eating and listening to music without headphones banned on Singapore buses

In Singapore, those who play music or videos loudly in a way that disturbs others on buses will be fined nearly 300 pounds sterling. In addition, authorities have also banned eating and drinking on buses. The Independent reported on this.

It is reported that starting from September 23, passengers on the city's buses can be fined up to 500 Singapore dollars (approximately 391 US dollars) for violations such as putting feet on seats, littering, eating, and drinking inside the cabin.

The rules were already in place on trains. The Land Transport Authority stated that these changes were made to create a safe and comfortable environment for all passengers. Meanwhile, a fine of up to 5,000 Singapore dollars has been set for causing danger to others or polluting the vehicle at bus stops or terminals.

Bus drivers will not monitor passengers' behavior or issue fines. Instead, authorized personnel of the bus operators will issue notifications to violators, and the authority will investigate.

Drivers only retain the right to ask passengers who violate the rules to get off or, in severe cases, to contact the police. Also, staff must apply the rules fairly to individuals with physical or mental health disabilities.

Order in public places is strictly controlled in Singapore. The practice of banning loud music on buses and trams is also applied in the Polish city of Krakow, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and London.
