Drones for missiles: Ukraine's former defense minister proposes to solve the Patriot problem through barter
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has offered to help the United States create an army of drones. In return, he is asking for missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This statement by the former official was made in an interview with the Financial Times.
Fedorov said that he would be happy to help the Americans create an army of modern drones. Ukrainians will share advanced technologies and experience in their use. In return, the United States will provide the country with air defense missiles.
"I am ready for such an exchange," Fedorov said.
Then the journalist asked the former official if he could go to Washington and meet with representatives of the Donald Trump administration. However, Fedorov did not comment on this question.
"Transfer" from Kiev to Rome
Mykhailo Fedorov was considered one of the politicians in President Zelensky's team. He has made significant strides in developing the country’s digital infrastructure, popularizing drones and remote-controlled systems. However, after resigning as defense minister, he openly called for presidential elections in the country.
Earlier, Zelensky had offered a number of positions to keep a young and talented cadre in his team. But they did not satisfy Fedorov. The former official accepted the offer of the Italian defense minister to become his adviser. However, he did not break off relations with Ukraine.
According to Fedorov, he plans to create a special fund for defense technologies. The fund will attract investment from the United States. The funds will be directed to the creation and development of companies that will develop new weapons. The former official is currently negotiating with venture capitalists and US technology companies.
