Demand for foreign currency in Uzbekistan reached $44.3 billion
According to the Central Bank, in January–August 2026, the total demand of legal entities and individuals for foreign currency amounted to $44.3 billion.
This figure is 17.3 percent higher compared to $37.8 billion in the same period of 2025. Legal entities accounted for $34.7 billion of the total currency purchases, while individuals accounted for $9.6 billion.
During this period, the total supply of foreign currency also increased. It reached $38.2 billion, which is 25.5 percent, or $7.8 billion, more than in the corresponding period of last year. In January–August, the population sold foreign currency worth nearly $16.6 billion to commercial banks.
Foreign currency funds sold by legal entities amounted to $21.6 billion. Thus, the main part of the total currency supply was formed by sales from legal entities and individuals.
During the reporting period, a gap of $6.1 billion was recorded between demand and supply. Demand was $44.3 billion, while supply was $38.2 billion.
In January–August, the exchange rate fluctuated within the range of 11,779–12,320 soums/USD.
By the end of the reporting period, the rate increased by 1.5 percent. The volatility of the exchange rate averaged 32.3 soums or 0.27 percent. In January–August 2025, this figure was 32.4 soums or 0.26 percent.
