Restaurants in Croatia will display two different prices for one dish on their menus

Starting October 1, it will be mandatory for restaurants and cafes in Croatia to write another price next to the current price. This is the price of the exact same dish or drink that was in effect on September 10, 2026. The new procedure has been established by a decision of the Croatian government.

For example, if a coffee currently costs 4 euros, its price on September 10 must also be displayed next to it. The customer only pays the current price. The second number serves for comparison and to see how much the price has changed.

This requirement does not only apply to printed menus. The two prices must also be on the establishments' websites and on outdoor advertising boards where the prices of food and drinks are displayed.

Fines have been set for violations. In some cases, the fine can reach almost 2,000 euros, and for some companies, up to 27,000 euros.

Restaurateurs in the country are already criticizing this innovation. Franz Letica, head of the Zagreb Restaurateurs Association, said that two prices could confuse visitors and lead to misunderstandings.
