What does "Mogging" mean?

Collins Dictionary names its word of the year for 2026

The Collins English Dictionary, published in Great Britain, has selected the most popular word of 2026. The word

"mogging"

was deemed worthy of this status.

"Mogging" means to dominate someone, attempting to overshadow others with one's attractiveness or success. This word is believed to originate from the youth slang acronym AMOG.

Dictionary compilers note that the word "mogging" is mostly used among Generation Z and Alpha representatives in a humorous and sarcastic sense — to describe situations where someone has been overshadowed by another person.

Additionally, the list of candidates for word of the year included "carspreading" (spreading one's legs wide while sitting next to someone on a bus or train, interfering with others), "Manchesterism", "heatwave", and "ghost jobs" (fake job vacancies that do not actually exist).
