"City vs. Nature": How Tashkent Residents Will Spend the Long Independence Day Weekend | Street Survey
Only one week remains until the long holiday weekend marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence.
Citizens working a five-day workweek will enjoy four days of uninterrupted rest—from August 29 to September 1 inclusive. Those working a six-day workweek will have three consecutive days off.
This extended weekend offers Tashkent residents a wonderful opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Nuz.uz journalists conducted a survey on the capital's busy streets to find out how residents plan to spend this time.
The results of the street survey were almost evenly split, demonstrating a classic holiday compromise. Half of respondents are determined to stay in Tashkent, as the capital's locations traditionally offer a grand program: large-scale public festivities, concerts, and an evening fireworks display in Yangi Uzbekistan Park, the cool fountains of Tashkent City, and the vibrant decorations of Magic City.
The other half are determined to escape the bustle of the city for cooler weather—to Charvak, Chimgan, and the picturesque areas of the Bostanlyk district. For them, the ideal holiday scenario involves clean mountain air, refreshing water, and, of course, traditional gatherings around a campfire with succulent shashlik and fragrant holiday pilaf among loved ones.
We've compiled the opinions of Tashkent residents, their lively emotions, debates about the best vacation spot, and the most interesting answers in our special video report. Watch the video survey right now to get a feel for the pre-holiday atmosphere in the capital and perhaps find the perfect idea for your own weekend:
Ultimately, no matter where the holiday routes lead—to the bustling squares of the metropolis or to the quiet mountain gorges—one thing remains the top priority for all respondents. Regardless of the chosen location, be it a picnic in nature or a stroll under the festive fireworks in the city, Tashkent residents strive for the most important thing: spending these precious days with their families, strengthening family ties, and sharing warmth with loved ones.
