Chinese man creates world's largest rose garden for his wife

A Chinese man has created the world's largest rose garden for his wife.

According to the South China Morning Post, Zhou Xiaolin, a man from Sichuan Province, China, created the world's largest rose garden to please his wife, Yin Xie.

The idea for the garden came to him in 2013, when Yin recalled childhood memories of seeing roses with her husband in Beijing. After his wife told him that she loved flowers, Zhou promised to create a garden for her.

Despite having no experience in gardening, he sold his house, bought land in the city of Zhuanlong and learned how to grow roses. The man spent more than 10 years cultivating more than 700 types of hibiscus, as well as about 150,000 lotuses and 100,000 Chinese hibiscus bushes on an area of about 80 hectares.

Later, Zhou, inspired by Chinese botanists, deeply studied the history and cultural significance of hibiscus. He even created an illustrated guide dedicated to the types of flowers.

Zhou Xiaolin and Ying Xie have been married for more than 35 years. They met when Ying came to Sichuan with fellow students from Peking Medical University. Zhou, who was assigned as a trainee guide for the group, fell in love with the girl. They corresponded as friends for five years until Zhou came to Beijing and proposed to Ying.
