China in talks with US and Russia over possible meeting of Xi Jinping, Trump and Putin at APEC summit
The Chinese authorities are maintaining contact with the US and Russia regarding the organization of a trilateral meeting of the leaders of these countries on the sidelines of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
As reported by Bloomberg, this was stated on Wednesday at a briefing in Beijing by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Mao Ning, answering a question about plans to hold talks between the three presidents in the city of Shenzhen.
According to the diplomat, two weeks before the start of the forum, the Chinese side continues to interact with the interested parties regarding a possible summit with the participation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, the heads of the White House and the Kremlin had already publicly spoken about their interest in holding joint talks with the Chinese leader within the framework of the November APEC forum.
If this initiative is realized, the talks between the three nuclear powers will become an important step in Moscow's efforts to overcome international isolation following the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, and will also allow Xi Jinping to act as a mediator between Putin and Trump. A trilateral summit of China, Russia and the US has no precedent in modern history, and analysts call the 1945 Yalta Conference, at which Joseph Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill discussed the post-war order of Europe against the backdrop of the approaching defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, its closest historical analogue.
