ChatGPT is still the leader, but Gemini and Claude are closing in on it
In September 2026, the ChatGPT website recorded nearly 5.9 billion visits. Although it maintained its leadership among chatbot websites, Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude are increasing their market share. Together, the two competitors accounted for more than a third of the traffic to the analyzed chatbot websites.

ChatGPT still remains the leader, but Gemini and Claude are closing in on it. The rating takes into account visits made to websites through computer and mobile device browsers; artificial intelligence features built into applications, APIs, and other products are not included in this calculation.
Furthermore, the figures represent the number of visits rather than the number of unique users: one person can visit the site multiple times.
In September, the Gemini site received 2.6 billion visits. Third-placed Claude recorded nearly one billion visits. This is even higher than the combined total of the DeepSeek, Grok, Copilot, and Perplexity sites.
Together, ChatGPT and Gemini accounted for the main share of visits to chatbot websites. The remaining platforms accounted for less than one-fifth of the total traffic.
In the period from October 2025 to September 2026, Gemini and Claude were the only platforms among the major chatbots analyzed to increase their share. The source attributes Gemini's growth to Google's broad user base, and Claude's growth to its capabilities in programming and working with information, as well as its increasing public recognition.
While Claude ranked fifth in October 2025, it has now risen to third place. During the same period, the combined share of DeepSeek, Grok, Copilot, and Perplexity dropped from 11.4 percent to 8.1 percent.
Microsoft Copilot took sixth place with a 1.5 percent share. However, this figure does not cover its use within Windows and Microsoft Office. Therefore, the rating reflects specifically website visits rather than the overall popularity of chatbots across all platforms.
