Car sales in Uzbekistan fell by 3.6% — AAB

In the first seven months of 2026, car sales in Uzbekistan decreased by 3.6%, while the share of Chinese brands increased to 17.8%.

Car sales in Uzbekistan from January to July 2026 decreased by 3.6% compared to the same period last year, despite Chinese automakers continuing to expand their presence in the market. A total of 210,837 vehicles were sold in the seven months, 7,940 units less than the previous year, according to the Association of Automobile Businesses of Uzbekistan (AAB).

In July of this year, 31,324 vehicles were sold. This figure is 4.7% higher than June sales, but 30% lower than July 2025 levels. This is the fourth consecutive month of negative dynamics.

Amid the overall decline in sales, the market structure is changing. UzAuto Motors' share decreased from 81.5% to 74.6% over the year, while ADM's share increased from 11.3% to 12.8%.

The increase in ADM share was driven, in particular, by Kia, Haval, and Changan, whose market shares increased by 0.7, 0.5, and 0.3 percentage points, respectively. BYD demonstrated the most significant growth, with its share almost doubling year-on-year, rising from 5.6% to 10%.

The combined market share of Chinese automobile brands reached 17.8% in January-July, compared to 11.6% in the same period last year.

In July, compared to June, Kia and BYD's shares each increased by 1.8 percentage points, while Haval's increased by 0.4 percentage points. The largest market share declines over the month were recorded by Chevrolet (by 3.6 percentage points) and Chery (by 0.9 percentage points).

At the same time, demand for different vehicle types is changing. Sales of B-segment sedans totaled over 70,000 units in the first seven months of 2026, compared to 87,000 units the year before. Their market share declined from 40% to 34%.

Sales of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) also declined. From January to July, 62,800 such vehicles were sold, a 9.6% decrease compared to 69,500 units sold in the same period of 2025.

At the same time, demand for compact SUV-B crossovers is growing. Sales in this segment reached 47,900 vehicles in the first seven months of 2026, compared to 37,700 units the year before. The SUV-B share increased by 5.5 percentage points, reaching 22.7%.

According to the Automobile Business Association of Uzbekistan, the country's automotive market continues to undergo structural changes: demand is gradually shifting toward more expensive vehicles.

The association cites the development of financial products in the automotive market and the growing purchasing power of the population as possible factors behind this trend.
