Brothers injured by 'exploding' steam room door
Brothers aged 11 and 16 were inside a steam room when the door exploded, leaving them with cuts.
Two brothers from Harrogate sustained injuries when a steam room door unexpectedly shattered during their family vacation in Turkey. The incident occurred while the boys, then aged 11 and 16, were on a package holiday with their parents at the Green Nature Diamond Hotel.
The boys' father obtained CCTV footage from the hotel, which captured the moment the glass door fragmented, resulting in cuts to various parts of their bodies.
Initially, Jet2Holidays disclaimed responsibility, but subsequently agreed to a £7,000 compensation payment for the family. The travel company stated, "We would like to reiterate how sorry we are about this incident."
Hudgell Solicitors initiated a claim for damages on behalf of the family. Following a ten-month wait for the CCTV footage, Jet2Holidays representatives presented the compensation offer.
The father recounted the moment his eldest son, bleeding and limping from cuts to his feet after leaving the spa, burst into their hotel room. An on-site doctor treated the boys for cuts to their feet, legs, and arms.
"It was scary," the father said, adding that the family avoided package holidays for four years due to the incident, and his children remain apprehensive about glass doors.
Anne Thomson of Hudgell Solicitors described the event as a "terrifying experience." She noted that the "CCTV footage makes for especially uncomfortable viewing and underscores just how fortunate the brothers were to have avoided serious injury."
Jet2Holidays confirmed that it "reached a settlement in relation to an incident which occurred in 2022."
