Blogger Sirojiddin Adilov sentenced to four years for fraud and extortion

Blogger and head of the Sirojiddin media project Sirojiddin Adilov has been sentenced to four years in prison in a case involving extortion and fraud.

The verdict was handed down on October 5 by the Mirzachul District Court of the Jizzakh Region; Adilov will serve his sentence in a colony-settlement.

The court established that the man obtained 12 million soums from one person through extortion, and another 30 million and 33 million soums through fraud from two others. The total damage amounted to 75 million soums. According to the Jizzakh Regional Court, the money has been fully refunded.

The defense did not plead guilty on behalf of Adilov. At the hearing on September 24, the prosecutor requested a six-year prison sentence, while the lawyers and public defenders insisted on acquittal. Ultimately, the court imposed a sentence of four years in prison.

As a reminder, Adilov was detained in Samarkand in March of this year. The trial began on July 20 in the Jizzakh City Court, after which the case was transferred to the Mirzachul District Court for consideration.
