During a meeting with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Nuriddin Mamajonov, the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, voiced a proposal to significantly increase the share of settlements in national currencies between the two countries.
Golovchenko noted that in 2025, trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan increased by more than 30%, and this growth trend continued in the first half of 2026.
He also emphasized the high level of mutual trust between Belarus and Uzbekistan in both the political and trade and economic spheres.
According to the head of the National Bank of Belarus, the current size of the economies of both countries and their balanced trade turnover create favorable conditions for expanding the use of national currencies in settlements.
Implementing this initiative, according to Golovchenko, will require coordinated efforts by the governments and central banks of Belarus and Uzbekistan.
