Belarus and Fergana Region intend to expand direct cooperation

Belarus and Uzbekistan's Fergana Region plan to build up cooperation, moving from trade operations to the implementation of joint projects directly in the regions.

The prospects for interregional cooperation were discussed on October 29 in Minsk by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Yuri Shuleiko and Khokim of Fergana Region Khayrullo Bozarov.

Yuri Shuleiko noted the interest of Uzbek entrepreneurs in working with Belarusian partners and stressed that the development of business contacts at the regional level helps strengthen trade and economic ties between the two countries.

According to him, the parties intend to summarize the results already achieved, determine the directions for further work, and consider issues that require solutions. The Belarusian side, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed, is focused on fulfilling previously reached agreements.

Shuleiko also stated the need to move from intermediary schemes to direct interaction between companies of the two countries. He assigned an important role in this process to the full use of the transport infrastructure of Belarus and Uzbekistan.

Khayrullo Bozarov reported that the parties are working on new projects and initiatives. According to him, after the top-level meetings, conditions were created for expanding cooperation between the regions. While at the initial stage the Fergana Region developed ties primarily with the Gomel Region of Belarus, interaction now also covers the Minsk Region.

The Khokim specifically highlighted projects in the woodworking sector. In addition, the meeting participants considered other potential areas of joint work.

Yuri Shuleiko expressed the view that the development of Belarus's partnership with the Fergana Region could serve as an example of successful interregional interaction for other regions of the two countries.
