Behruz Karimov moves to Swiss club Lugano

Uzbekistan national team defender Behruz Karimov will continue his career with Swiss club Lugano. The 19-year-old player signed a contract with the European club after participating in the 2026 World Cup.

Uzbekistan national team defender Behruz Karimov will now play for Swiss club Lugano. The Football Association of Uzbekistan confirmed that the 19-year-old has signed a contract with his new team.

Born on August 7, 2007, Karimov began his football career at the Odil Junior academy. Later, the player, who played for Tashkent's Olimpik team, moved to Termez's Surkhon club in February 2025.

The right-wing defender quickly demonstrated his skills in the Uzbekistan championship and was called up to the national team. He played for Uzbekistan in the main squad against Colombia and Portugal in the 2026 World Cup qualifying round.

Founded in 1908, Lugano is one of the oldest clubs in Switzerland. The team has won the Swiss championship three times and the Swiss Cup four times.

Lugano finished the 2025/26 season in 3rd place in the Swiss Super League. The team recorded 19 wins, 10 draws and 9 losses in 38 matches, gaining 67 points. The club qualified for the UEFA Conference League qualifying round at the end of the season.
