Bashar al-Assad sentenced to death
A Syrian court has sentenced the country's former president, Bashar al-Assad, to death, the state news agency SANA reported.
Assad fled to Russia after being ousted from power in December 2024 and was granted political asylum there. Since then, he has largely remained out of the media and public eye.
No other details about the sentence have been released.
According to reports, Bashar al-Assad lives with his family in a luxurious house in Moscow. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the current Syrian leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, have held several meetings.
