Aziz Hakimov sentenced to 4 years in prison

Aziz Khakimov was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

Today, the Shaykhantohur District Criminal Court announced the verdict against Aziz Khakimov after a closed session. This was reported by the Tashkent city courts.

Aziz Khakimov is known for his statements on social media against the sovereignty of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and for his propaganda of the USSR and the idea of its restoration.

His statements condemning the memory of the victims of political repression in the 1930s and participants in the national liberation struggle in the 1920s also caused serious controversy and protests on the networks.

Since the defendant's actions did not contain the elements of the crime provided for in Article 150 of the Criminal Code (propaganda of war), he was acquitted under Article 83 (grounds for rehabilitation) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Aziz Hakimov was found guilty of committing crimes under Article 139, Part 2 (slander), Article 140, Part 2 (insult), and Article 156, Part 2 (incitement of national, racial, ethnic, or religious hatred) of the Criminal Code.

He was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months of imprisonment, to be served in part by adding the sentences imposed in accordance with Articles 59 and 61 of the Criminal Code.

The court also ordered the Ministry of Digital Technologies to block the “Comrade_Aziz” channel on the Telegram messenger maintained by the defendant.

In addition:

* The right to apply to the court in civil cases to recover material and moral damages caused to them was explained to 6 victims in the case;

* the defendant was explained the deadlines and procedures for appealing the verdict to a higher court.

Aziz Khakimov was fined in 2025 for insulting the rector of the Uzbek University of Journalism and Mass Communications, journalist Sherzodkhon Kudratkhozha. At that time, he was fined 50 times the base amount, that is, 18 million 750 thousand soums.
