IMDb, one of the world's largest movie databases, has released its list of the 25 highest-rated movies based on user ratings. The list is based on millions of viewers' ratings on a 10-point scale and is constantly updated as new votes are added.

While the ranking covers almost 80 years of world cinema, nearly half of the top 25 films were made in the 1990s. Films from this period, such as The Shawshank Redemption (9.3), Schindler's List (9.0), Forrest Gump (8.8) and Goodfellas (8.7), remain among the highest-rated works to this day. Also released in the 1990s, The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Saving Ryan (1998) and The Green Mile (1999) all made the list of the best films with 8.6 points.

While modern films dominate the ranking, classic films also maintained their high positions. The oldest film in the top 25 is Frank Capra's 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life, which has a rating of 8.6 points. Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai also has a similar rating. The 1957 courtroom drama 12 Angry Men is ranked sixth on IMDb. Its rating is 9.0 points, making it the highest-rated film of Hollywood's "golden age."

Only six films made in the 21st century have made it into the top 25. Three of them are Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, filmed in 2001-2003. The average rating of these films is 8.9 points. The remaining three films belong to the famous British-American director Christopher Nolan. His film "The Dark Knight" (2008) took third place in the overall rating with a score of 9.1. Also included in the list of the best films are "Inception" (2010) with an 8.8 score, and "Interstellar" (2014) with an 8.7 score.
