At least one dead and four injured in Paris suburb shooting

The French prime minister says an individual is in police custody after a "serious event" in Trappes.

At least one person has died and four others have been injured in a shooting in a Paris suburb, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said.

The "very serious events" took place in Trappes, west of Paris, Lecornu wrote on social media, adding that the suspected attacker had been "apprehended and placed in police custody".

According to news agency AFP, a police source said a man fired from a vehicle on Friday and was later arrested in the nearby town of Coignières at about 10:30 local time (08:30 GMT).

French media reports suggest the number of injured could be higher, and that a 12-year-old child may be among them.

Lecornu said the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has announced it is monitoring the situation.
