Are chemical and biological products entering Uzbekistan being tested? – Conversation with a biologist

More and more chemical and biological products are being applied to plants. What consequences this will lead to is known only to the Creator. But you and I have the right to ask one question: are the substances entering the country being tested? Are sufficient measures being taken to minimize the damage? Are the risks being assessed? On this issue, we addressed questions to Doctor of Biological Sciences Bakhtiyor Rasulov.

: Are the plant products entering Uzbekistan from abroad undergoing sufficient testing?

First of all, it must be said that it is necessary to speak on this topic and inform the general public and responsible agencies about the process taking place today. You asked the question correctly, because recently the chemical agents used in the agriculture of Uzbekistan have increased significantly.

The agents widely used in agriculture can be conditionally divided into two groups: chemical and biological agents. Chemical agents are products whose active substance has a chemical nature. They include fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides. Biological agents are those whose active substance is based on living cells. These mostly encompass products such as biological fertilizers, biopreparations, and biofungicides. Separate requirements exist for both types.

First and foremost, the main active substance of an imported chemical agent must be identified. For example, if it is stated that a product contains substance A, the next tests are allowed only after the responsible laboratory in Uzbekistan verifies and confirms this. In most cases, the information about the composition is filled in by the manufacturing firm or company itself. To be certain, we must check it in the laboratory using appropriate equipment. There is no difficulty in this. Research institutes have mastered all methods for identifying chemical, in particular, organic substances. However, whether this work is done in our substance registration agencies or not remains unclear to me.

Is it included in the rules that we must check any product when it is imported?
