Apple has introduced a new generation of Mac mini and Mac Studio devices.
Without holding a separate event, Apple introduced a new generation of Mac mini based on the M5 Pro and M6 chipsets. According to Gizmodo, this is the first desktop computer to be updated since 2024, and at the same time the last product released under Tim Cook.
The new Mac mini has retained its compact design. Now the amount of RAM in its basic configuration is 16 GB, and a 256 GB SSD is installed for data storage. The starting price has reached $ 900, which is $ 100 more than the previous version.
The main change was the M6 processor - this is Apple's first chip manufactured on a 2-nanometer technological process. It includes two supercores, four efficient and six energy-efficient cores. The company emphasizes not only speed, but also increased energy efficiency compared to the 3-nanometer generation.
Apple claims that the M6 has about 1.2 times the multi-threaded performance of the M5. The changes in graphics are even more noticeable: each core of the 12-core graphics processor is equipped with neural accelerators, which provides twice the graphics speed of the Mac mini with Apple M4.
Apple also offers a Mac mini based on the M5 Pro. It uses an 18-core graphics processor designed for more complex graphics and artificial intelligence tasks. Both models are equipped with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5 gigabit Ethernet.
The new product can be pre-ordered on the Apple website, but sales will begin on September 22. The base version with 16/256 GB of memory on the M6 chip starts at $ 900, and the Mac mini with 24/512 GB of memory on the M5 Pro chip starts at $ 1,700.
At the same time, Apple officially announced the M6 and M5 Ultra processors, as well as the Mac Studio based on the M5 Max and M5 Ultra. The latter is called the most powerful chipset in the company's history: in the maximum configuration it received 80 graphics cores, 36 processor cores and up to 512 GB of combined memory.
