Anti-Infantino alliance: UEFA and CONCACAF teams could compete in the same tournament — The Guardian

New alliance against Infantino: UEFA and CONCACAF national teams could unite in a single tournament - The Guardian
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) are discussing the possibility of creating a joint Nations League in a move aimed at challenging FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
The move comes after Infantino proposed selling part of the World Cup broadcasting rights.
A total of 96 teams from UEFA and CONCACAF could take part in the new tournament. The first season of the revamped Nations League is expected to start in 2028. Its format is planned to be as follows: a group stage in the autumn, play-offs in March and a final in June.
The tournament will be held every two years and its new structure will be similar to the current format: national teams will be divided into leagues. For example, League A could feature teams from Europe such as Spain, England, France and Germany, and from North America such as the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Currently, both confederations have their Nations League matches on the same FIFA dates set aside for national teams. This could simplify the process of organizing a new tournament.
However, given the overall situation within the organization, it is unclear whether FIFA will approve the tournament.
