Anthropic Sued Over Elvis Presley Songs

Holders of the rights to the musical legacy of American singer Elvis Presley have filed a lawsuit against AI developer Anthropic. The company is accused of unlawfully using songs to train language models.

The case involves the infringement of rights to 274 of Presley's compositions. The list includes both global hits and lesser-known tracks.

According to the plaintiff, the Claude chatbot recreated some of the songs for a modern audience while retaining their verses and choruses. The rightsholders are demanding $150,000 for each composition, which totals approximately $41 million.

This is not the first such lawsuit against Anthropic. Earlier, several global music publishers sued the company for uploading more than 20,000 copyrighted songs.
