An Uzbek citizen who financed ISIS and was wanted for 10 years has been extradited to the US

An Uzbek national, now a US citizen, Dovud Ansari (Kozimjon Gafurov), was extradited from Tbilisi, Georgia, to the United States on September 23. He is accused of providing material support to terrorist organizations and conspiracy.

The "Choyxona" network and financing

According to court documents, Ansari led a radical group based in Brooklyn, New York. The group financed volunteers who planned to travel to Syria to fight in the ranks of ISIS and the "Al-Nusra Front."

Members of the group called their network "Choyxona" (Teahouse). This network raised funds to assist militants who had gone to Syria, as well as the families of those who had died. As a result, the travel of at least three people to Syria was financed in 2013, and all of them are believed to have died there.

Ansari fled to Turkey on a one-way ticket five days after one of his accomplices was arrested in May 2016 and had been wanted since then. In November 2021, a federal grand jury in Brooklyn indicted him.

He was arrested in Tbilisi in August 2026 and brought to the United States on September 23. The formal charges against him will be read at a court hearing to be held in Brooklyn Federal Court.

If the court proves Ansari's guilt, he could face up to 35 years in prison.
