An attempt to smuggle nearly seven kilograms of mephedrone hidden in wine bottles was foiled in Tashkent.

According to Podrobno.uz, two passengers arriving in Tashkent from Bangkok chose the "green" corridor, attempting to smuggle the synthetic drug mephedrone in their luggage.

Officers at the specialized customs complex "Tashkent-Aero" and the border customs post at Tashkent International Airport successfully thwarted this attempt to import a large quantity of the synthetic drug into Uzbekistan.

The operation took place on August 4. During a search of the passengers' luggage, customs officers discovered two bottles, presumably containing wine, and two plastic containers. Inside were 6.8 kilograms of the synthetic drug mephedrone.

Customs authorities have opened a criminal case regarding the illegal import of narcotics.

According to the State Customs Committee, since the beginning of this year, 471 cases of illegal drug trafficking and trafficking have been prevented in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies. A total of nearly 1.8 tons of drugs have been seized.
