After joining the WTO, Uzbekistan will establish import duties by law
After Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization, under the single document principle, it intends to introduce the practice of legally establishing the HS codes of goods, the maximum tariff rates (bound rates) agreed upon within the WTO framework, and the import customs duty rates applied in practice. A draft law on this matter will be developed by the end of 2027.
After joining the WTO, Uzbekistan will establish import duties by law
After joining the World Trade Organization, Uzbekistan plans to transition to the practice of establishing import duty rates through legislation. Currently, duty rates are approved by presidential decree.
According to the president's decree on customs reform signed on August 27, after Uzbekistan joins the WTO, the following will be established by law based on the single document principle: commodity codes under the FEA CN (Foreign Economic Activity Commodity Nomenclature); maximum levels (bound rates) agreed within the WTO framework regarding the FEA CN codes; and import customs duty rates.
The relevant draft law must be prepared by December 2027.
As a reminder, Uzbekistan had planned to officially join the World Trade Organization at its summit in March 2026. After this did not materialize, it is now stated that this goal is to be achieved by the end of this year.
