Afghan man sentenced to life in prison for killing pedestrians in Germany

An Afghan man who ran over pedestrians in Germany has been sentenced to life in prison.

Farhad Nouri, a 25-year-old Afghan, drove his Mini Cooper at high speed into protesters from the Verdi trade union in central Munich on February 13, 2025. The incident killed a 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter. Today, August 6, a court found the man guilty of murder and attempted murder and sentenced him to life in prison.

The Munich Higher Court found the Afghan man "extremely guilty," according to Bild. The ruling significantly reduces his chances of being released on parole after serving 15 years in prison. The court also found Nouri guilty of the deaths of two people and the attempted murder of 23 people.

In the case of Farhad Nuri, who arrived in Germany in 2016, the Federal Prosecutor's Office has identified complex motives. According to reports, both religious and political factors played a role in the attack. This was also compounded by feelings of loneliness and anxiety. The man showed no signs of remorse.

According to the BBC, in addition to the two victims, 40 other people were injured to varying degrees at the time.
