A court in Termez sentenced a woman to 3.5 years in prison for attempting to sell her 11-year-old son for 40 million soums. At the hearing, the mother said she took the action due to debts, homelessness, and a divorce, and thought it would be best for her child. She has two other children.

According to Milliy TV's "Milliar" program, a verdict has been handed down in the Surkhandarya region in the case of a woman who attempted to sell her 11-year-old son for 40 million soums.
The criminal case was heard in an open hearing in the Termez City Criminal Court.
The 33-year-old mother was arrested in April while receiving 20 million soums. In court, the woman fully admitted her guilt, citing her dire financial situation, including debts, homelessness, and divorce.
She stated that she believed this would allow her child to have a better life, as she herself was unable to provide him with decent living conditions.
The defendant expressed remorse and asked the court to render a "fair" verdict, given that she has two other minor children.
The court found the woman guilty under Article 135, Section 3, Item "b" of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (human trafficking committed against a person known to the perpetrator to be under 18 years of age). Applying Article 57 (imposing a more lenient sentence), she was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. She will serve her sentence in a general regime penal colony.
Earlier, in Fergana, a married couple accused of attempting to sell a baby were sentenced to five years in prison.
