A venomous snake was found inside the helmet worn by a member of the American football team of one of the high schools in the US state of Arkansas.

The student at Maumelle School felt something moving inside his headgear after practice. Then a venomous snake about 60 centimeters long was found behind the inner pads of the helmet.

Since the creature did not want to get out of the helmet on its own, animal control officers had to submerge it in water and pull it out with clamps. Experts confirmed that it was a highly venomous moccasin snake. Later, it was released into a wooded area. For information, this type of reptile is the second most dangerous among the venomous snakes found in Arkansas.

Chris Davis, director of animal protection services, said the student had been wearing the helmet for about an hour and was lucky not to be bitten by the snake.

“It’s unbelievable. You had to be there and see it with your own eyes to believe it,” Davis said.

The student then got a new helmet and continued training. However, the incident prompted the head coach to strongly advise his team members to carefully inspect their sports equipment before using it, to make sure there are no insects or, worse, dangerous creatures.
