Tanker attacked near Romania. 7 sailors being searched for
In the Black Sea near the coast of Romania, 7 of the 12 crew members went missing after a tanker was hit by a drone strike.
The San Marino-flagged vessel named Wine Trader sent a distress signal around 7 a.m. on October 15. There were a total of 12 people on board the ship. Five of them were rescued, while the rest are considered missing.
That same night, a fire also broke out on another ship in the Black Sea — the chemical tanker Yara J, sailing under the flag of the Comoros. There were no casualties, and the crew managed to extinguish the fire on their own.
According to Reuters, both ships were anchored near the Romanian coast at the time of the attack, but local authorities have not yet linked the fires on board to attacks by Russian drones.
The publication notes that over the past ten days, at least five cargo ships have been attacked by drones near the coasts of Romania and Bulgaria. All of these attacks occurred outside NATO territorial waters and resulted in the deaths of a total of 23 sailors.
