Part of a housing estate in Waterford’s Birchwood area remains sealed off.

It is believed that several people may have died after a house fire in Waterford city in the Republic of Ireland.

The fire broke out at a housing estate in the Birchwood area, just off Killure Road.

Emergency services, including firefighters and gardaí (Irish police), are still at the scene.

In a statement, gardaí said that because it was an "ongoing evolving incident" they were not in a position to provide any further detail at present.
