A floating wind farm as tall as a 110-story skyscraper has been launched in China.

China has commissioned its first floating wind turbine, which reaches the height of a 110-story skyscraper. This platform is already powering an oil field in the South China Sea and is designed to withstand powerful typhoons with wind gusts of up to 220 km/h.
The platform, named Haiyou Anlan, has a capacity of 16 megawatts and is located approximately 136 kilometers offshore in the northern South China Sea. It is anchored on a special tension-leg platform, minimizing the use of steel and reducing its footprint while maintaining high structural strength.
The total weight of the structure is 7,800 tons, and the area covered by the turbine blades is equivalent to seven and a half standard football fields. The generated electricity is transmitted to the Lufeng oil field via undersea cables. According to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the station's annual output will be approximately 54 million kilowatt-hours.
CNOOC emphasizes that the commissioning of this facility is a significant step in the development of deepwater wind energy in China. The company estimates that the platform will save approximately 15,000 cubic meters of fuel annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 35,000 tons.
