The khokim of the Surkhandarya region stated that rail service does not meet requirements, and passengers "arrive in Tashkent sick." He also criticized airfare prices and the practice of selling tickets "to connections."
"A 10-sum ticket is being sold for 25," Ulugbek Kosimov criticized the transportation industry.
At a meeting in the Jarkurgan district, the mayor issued instructions to improve conditions both on trains and in waiting rooms.
"The trains completely lack adequate conditions. People board the train and arrive in Tashkent already sick. Neither the air conditioning nor the necessary conditions are in place, nor are tickets available... It's impossible to transport people on intercity trains to Saryasi. The transport prosecutor is merely an observer. How are you transporting people in such conditions?" the mayor declared.
"A disgrace."
Ulugbek Kosimov also raised the issue of airfare.
"Our airfare is a complete disgrace: prices have doubled. An organization called Monopoly is simply watching. It's scary to look at the airfare prices; how can a poor person fly? And you can't even get these tickets without connections," he noted.
The mayor demanded that the antimonopoly authority conduct an analysis of ticket prices and bring order to this area.
"How much is the company jacking up ticket prices? People are traveling in silence—students, the elderly... It's hard to breathe inside. Where is the sanitary and epidemiological service? Why aren't they checking?"
He also emphasized that ticket sales should be transparent and not based on connections:
"They're fraudulently selling a 10-sum ticket for 25, creating artificial barriers."
The mayor ordered that intercity trains and routes to Tashkent be fully equipped within a week.
