The Uzbekistan (Surkhandarya)-China International Investment Forum, held in the Surkhandarya region on August 15-16, offered investors 95 promising projects worth a total of $10 billion. Following the talks, preliminary agreements were reached on 63 projects worth over $6.25 billion.
The forum brought together representatives of Uzbek and Chinese government agencies, major Chinese companies, international and industry organizations, as well as local authorities and business circles. More than 350 representatives from over 120 Chinese companies and organizations participated in the event.
Participants included representatives of the China Center for International Cultural Relations, JDB Group, China Railway Construction, Xinlong Construction Engineering Group, Jiangsu World Agricultural, and Anhui Wende Holding Group.
An Afghan delegation, led by Minister of Industry and Trade Nuriddin Azizi, also participated in the forum. Over 100 representatives from 46 Afghan companies participated in the event.
The Surkhandarya region's investment portfolio includes projects in several key sectors. Agriculture is represented by 25 projects, mining and geology by 24, services by 13, chemicals by six, construction materials by three, and textiles by two. Another 22 projects are in other industrial sectors.
During the forum, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Mining and Geology, the Tourism Committee, the Uzbek Industrial and Construction Materials Association, and the Termez International Trade Center presented investors with opportunities and proposals for cooperation in their respective fields.
Particular attention was paid to G2B and B2B negotiations. They were attended by business representatives from China and Afghanistan, city and district leaders of the Surkhandarya region, and local entrepreneurs.
Following these meetings, preliminary investment agreements were reached on 63 projects totaling $6.253 billion. The largest investment sectors were construction materials production (11 projects worth $1.225 billion), textile and clothing (eight projects worth $1.1815 billion), and mining (10 projects worth $1.027 billion).
Another 13 preliminary agreements worth $1.015 billion concern the services sector, including tourism, education, construction, and trade.
The agreements also cover agricultural production, the oil and gas and chemical industries, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, livestock farming, medicinal plant cultivation, and fish farming.
On August 15, the "Made in Uzbekistan" exhibition was held at the Ayritom Free Trade Zone. The event showcased the capabilities of local enterprises in agriculture and food processing, chemical and light industries, construction materials production, mining and geology, jewelry, and other sectors.
Participants were also presented with the investment potential of the Surkhandarya region, including its natural resources, industrial and agricultural potential, logistics capabilities, tourism, and projects involving foreign partners.
On August 16, representatives of Chinese companies visited large manufacturing facilities in the region's districts. During their visits, the investors were introduced to existing production facilities, infrastructure, promising sites, and investment projects.
Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev emphasized that the next step should be the practical implementation of the agreements reached. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the transition from investment dialogue to the implementation of specific projects, the creation of new production facilities, and jobs.
The forum served as a platform for further expansion of investment and trade-economic cooperation between the Surkhandarya region, China, and Afghanistan, as well as for presenting specific projects and production capabilities of the region to foreign businesses.
